Prizemoney: Over $2 million!
Caballus has become one of the standout success stories to emerge from the Inglis Digital Online Sale.
Originally a $1 million yearling, Caballus was purchased online by Darby Racing for $315,000 midway through his three-year-old season.
Caballus made an immediate impact for the stable, winning a metropolitan three-year-old contest before capturing the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes at just his second start for us. After finishing a strong third in the $1 million Inglis Sprint, we tipped him out for a break with lofty spring ambitions, including a tilt at the Group 1 Moir Stakes.
While he wasn’t able to quite reproduce his brilliant early form, a subsequent gelding operation proved the turning point and he returned in 2025 better than ever.
He resumed in the autumn with an impressive win in the Listed Ortensia Stakes before building toward another spring campaign. A dominant victory in the Group 3 Rising Fast Stakes down the Flemington straight sparked the idea of targeting the unique straight-track sprints. Although the conditions didn’t suit in the VRC Sprint on a rain-affected track, he bounced back in style with a commanding win in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes at Doomben before producing a gallant second to champion mare Joliestar in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes.
All signs pointed toward the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap, and with his proven ability down the Flemington straight, confidence was high heading into the race.
For it all to come together in Australia’s most famous handicap sprint was a huge thrill for the entire Bjorn Baker Racing team and a richly deserved result for one of the stable’s great supporters, Darby Racing.
Now with more than $2.2 million in prizemoney, Caballus has cemented himself as one of the most successful purchases ever made through the Inglis Digital platform and placed his name alongside some of the legendary winners of the Newmarket Handicap which includes the likes of Black Caviar, Miss Andretti and Takeover Target.
