DUNDEEL X ANA’S MAIL FILLY
Purchased for
$100,000 with Clarke Bloodstock (FBAA)
WHY WOULD YOU RACE THIS HORSE?
When you’ve trained a mare who banked $1.4 million and held her own against the best, you’re going to sit up straight when you get a call about her full sister.
And that’s exactly what I did.
I’ve had a lot of good mares through the stable and She’s Ideel was right up there with the best. Tough, genuine and always improving, she took us from midweek company to weight-for-age Group 1 races - winning the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes, placing in the Group 1 Tancred Stakes, Chipping Norton Stakes, and Winx Stakes. She was a ripper, and one I’ll always have a soft spot for.
So when the opportunity came up to privately secure her full sister, another filly by Dundeel out of Ana’s Mail, it was an easy decision. I know the family well, and I know the cross works. Ana’s Mail has produced seven winners from eight runners, including She’s Ideel, and this filly has so many of the same traits. She’s an athletic, scopey type with plenty of size and substance to her. I expect she’ll furnish into a lovely individual as her sister was and has the right attitude to go with it.
The pedigree also runs deeper. Elusive Treasure, a half-brother to She’s Ideel, was Group 1-placed in New Zealand and a multiple winner. Their dam Ana’s Mail is a sister to Emerging Star (placed in the Group 3 Skyline Stakes) and a half-sister to Shanzero, who won the Group 3 Wellington Stakes and was Group 1-placed in the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes. Another close relation, What’s The Mail, won the Listed JRA Doveton Stakes and ran second in the Group 3 Rubiton Stakes, and further down you’ll find Danesty, the dam of Mr Sneaky, who was runner-up in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
Dundeel is a stallion who has risen steadily through the ranks and is now entrenched in Australia’s top tier having finished inside the top 10 by prizemoney in each of the past three seasons, and he’s still trending upward. This season he has recorded his highest-ever number of Group winners in a single season with eight individual Group winners, underlining his growing influence at the elite level. His standouts this season include Femminile, winner of the Group 1 South Australian Derby, Red Aces, who claimed the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase, and Konasana, victorious in the Group 2 Westbury Classic. With better books continuing to hit the track, Dundeel is proving he’s not just consistent but he’s still on the rise.
We picked her up for $100,000, and I reckon she’s outstanding value. She’ll join the stable soon, and having trained her sister - and knowing how that family matures and performs - I have every reason to believe she’ll be just as exciting.
