WHY WOULD YOU RACE THIS HORSE?
This Maurice filly was a genuine sales-ring gift. Secured for $90,000, she’s a sharp, racy type and the first foal from a fast, stakes-placed mare, which only adds to the appeal.
Maurice continues to do an outstanding job in Australia, producing high-class performers across a range of distances. From elite Group 1-winning sprinter Mazu to dual Group 1 Derby winner Hitotsu, his versatility is well established. More recently, he’s been represented by WA’s exciting up-and-comer Cosmic Crusader and the highly promising Group 3-winning filly Ethereum Girl.
This filly is very much built and bred in the sharper mould by the sire. There’s plenty of speed through her pedigree and she looks the type who can get up and run early as a two-year-old. She’s an attractive filly with a lovely action and a very kind, sweet nature, and I expect she’ll be at her best over 1200 to 1400 metres as she matures.
She’s out of the sharp stakes-placed mare Shalstar, herself from a strong, speedy family. Shalstar is a full-sister to the highly promising Group 3-placed Roselyn’s Star, and is out of an Inglis Nursery placegetter, adding further depth to the page and reinforcing this filly’s residual value.
On the broodmare sire side, Shalaa has had just two runners to date, one of which is the Group 2-performed filly Autumn Blonde, which is very much an encouraging early sign.
At the price, she represents a rare opportunity to secure a sharp, early filly with depth on the page and upside on the track.
