WHY WOULD YOU RACE THIS HORSE?
After taking out the $1M Five Diamonds Prelude with Iknowastar last week, we went on the hunt for a horse that could do the same next year and I think this is it!
Mortlake is a lightly-raced and highly-progressive gelding that compares remarkably well to other European success stories in recent years. His Timeform ratings stack up very well against Group performers Fierce Impact and Carzoff after the exact same number of starts.
He runs out a strong mile and I’m expecting he will improve further when out to 2000m being by Galileo’s son, Churchill, and out of a Harbour Watch mare. You don’t have to look back too far to see another one of Churchill’s sons Attrition winning the $2M Hill Stakes earlier this month!
He is set to arrive in Australia in career best form having run a blinder off a slow pace to finish fourth last week at Kempton and rate p102+ with Timeform expressing more improvement to come.
Starting off with a low handicap, he’ll be able to race his way through the grades in the Autumn before setting our sights a bit higher.
With his tenacious efforts to date and room still for growth, I have no doubt that Mortlake is poised to make a significant impact on the racing scene down under.
